Diosas Rising: A Day of Healing and Latina Connection

Diosas Rising: Meeting the moment

Diosas Rising is a beautiful union of culture, literature, and spiritual empowerment. Latinas Beer & Book Club has been a space for women to connect over stories that reflect our shared experiences, celebrate our heritage, and ignite our collective strength. At The Balam Sanctuary, we hold space for transformation, healing, and resilience—helping women reconnect to their roots and reclaim their power.

This partnership is not just about reading a book, but about embodying its wisdom and applying it to our everyday lives. As Latinas, we’ve faced challenges that demand courage, authenticity, and community, and it’s more important than ever to foster spaces where we can uplift each other and heal together.

Together, we are creating a sanctuary where we can nurture our worth, embrace our journeys, and rise as powerful women who are not only capable of transformation but also worthy of it. This moment is one of deep connection, healing, and empowerment—and it’s exactly what we need right now as we move forward with intention and grace.

Diosas Rising is a space created by and for Latinas to feel seen, supported, and empowered.

A collaboration between Valeria Martinez of The Balam Sanctuary and Ivy Deliz and Cristina Rebellon of Latinas Beer & Book Club. Together, we are equipping our Latina community with tools of self-preservation, empowerment, and deep connection—so we can rise into our fullest power, unapologetically and authentically.

  • Valeria Martinez is a holistic practitioner, facilitator, and founder of The Balam Sanctuary, a bilingual retreat company dedicated to creating spaces for healing, self-discovery, and resilience. As a first-generation Mexican American, Valeria’s journey of healing from depression and anxiety led her to explore ancestral wisdom, plant medicine, and somatic healing. Through her work, she has guided hundreds of people in transformational experiences, weaving together mindfulness, community, and cultural connection.

The Balam Sanctuary was born from Valeria’s vision of offering accessible, heart-centered spaces where individuals—especially Latinas—can reconnect with their power, heal generational wounds, and cultivate self-worth. Whether through retreats, ceremonies, or community gatherings, her mission is to help others embrace their full, authentic selves.

  • Cristina is a registered dietitian and cooking instructor with a passion for empowering others to care for their bodies through nutrition and culinary skills. A proud child of immigrants from Honduras and Colombia, she has a deep appreciation for culture, family, and the power of food to connect and nurture people. Cristina is also a mentor for young women of color pursuing careers in health sciences, where she reflects on her struggles as a first generation college graduate and hopes to offer better support to the next generation of leaders in healthcare.

In 2021, Cristina founded Latina’s Beer and Book Club at Raíces Brewery, which was a project born out of her search for meaningful connection and a love for the brewery’s welcoming atmosphere. She wanted to create a space where Latinas could bond over books, beer, and shared experiences.

In 2022, Cristina made the bold decision to move to Taos, NM to build her dream home with her husband, where they embraced a hands-on approach to design and construct a their own home. At that time, Cristina passed the book club reins to Ivy, and under Ivy's leadership, the book club has continued to grow and thrive. Cristina maintains a strong connection to the book club group reflecting her dedication to building spaces of support and belonging for Latinas.

  • Ivy Deliz is the leader of the Latinas Beer & Book Club in Denver, a computer scientist for NASA and an advocate for exploration and conservation of the natural wonders of our planet and the Universe.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, she loved reading astronomy books and was passionate to learn about and explore space. She was pretty tech-savvy, discovered a passion for programming and hoped to apply that knowledge for science. Now she creates software for NASA and one of the tools is used by scientists and engineers to plan how the Perseverance Rover explores Mars.

She is an avid sci-fi and nonfiction reader and has been part of the Latinas Beer & Book Club since its second meeting in 2021. She became leader in 2022, and her mission is to create a space where latinas can feel empowered, respected and their most complex and authentic selves. As many who move away from home, assimilation loosens the deep convection to our history and culture, and she’s on the path of reconnection for herself and her two boys.
